The Adult Education Council is a planning group dedicated to initiate and encourage growth of mind and spirit. The selection of classes is meant to be broad, but spiritually based, covering a wide spectrum of subjects and interests. The congregation should expect 8-10 classes or workshops over the course of a year dealing with questions of faith, as well as the many challenges of daily life.

Classes:

Introduction to the Bible: June 9 through 30, 8:30 a.m.

Have you wanted to know more about the Bible, but didn't know how or where to begin? Or did you start your investigation and now want to learn more? Beginning in June, you will have the opportunity to do just that in the next Faith Development class, "Introduction to the Bible."

J. Benton White is a United Methodist minister, an author, and was a Professor for Religious Studies at both San Jose State and Santa Clara University. He is a well-known authority on the Bible. He has authored two textbooks: From Adam to Armageddon—A Survey of the Bible, now in its fifth edition and used throughout the country in classrooms, and Taking the Bible Seriously—Honest Differences in Biblical Interpretations. He has been associated with Almaden Hills since the summer of 1961 and has preached here at least once every year since then.

This four week series will include what the Bible is, what it contains, how it deals with a sense of history in the world community, its use of the prophets, and how it became the foundation of our religious authority. The class promises to engage your mind with such issues as which parts of the Bible are most important, why some traditions continue to be followed while others not, and what determines the difference between interpreting the Bible metaphorically or literally. This is a great opportunity to invite a friend to our church to join us for this lecture series.
